"It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying--'he disappeared, because God took him.' For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God. And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him." (Hebrews 11:5-6 NLT)
Thoughts for Today
Enoch was the son of Jared (Genesis 5:18) and father of Methuselah (Genesis 5:21). He was 65 when Methuselah was born, and he lived 300 years after Methuselah's birth. "Enoch lived 365 years, walking in close fellowship with God" (Genesis 5:23-24 NLT). He did not die--God took him. He was the first man to escape death.
Enoch is described as "a person who pleased God." He did more than talk about God, debate about God, or read about God. He walked with God. He and God were intimate friends.
Consider this ...
Today's scripture makes it clear that Enoch pleased God. Since it is impossible to please God without faith, we know that Enoch lived by faith. No doubt his faith grew because he walked with God and spent time with Him. He developed that relationship by talking to God and listening to Him.
If we want to walk more closely to God, we must believe he exists and rewards those who sincerely seek him. We must want a deeper relationship and take steps to develop it. In the next few days, we will look at some ways to do that.
Prayer
Lord, I do believe you exist. Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I come to you now seeking a closer walk with you. In Jesus' name . . .
