The Divine Register

Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord And who meditate on His name. - (Malachi 3:16)

The Bible clearly teaches that God has a book, which goes by a number of names. It is called the Book of Remembrance, which contains the names of those who fear the Lord and think on His name. Sometimes it is just called the Book. Other times, it is called the Book of Life, or the Lamb’s Book of Life. And according to Revelation 20, one day at the Great White Throne judgment, the books will be opened, and the dead will be judged by the things written in the books. A book also will be opened, which is the Book of Life. And whoever is not found written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire.

No Christian will be present at the Great White Throne Judgment; it is for nonbelievers only. Perhaps this is to demonstrate why they will face judgment. But the big issue is whether your name is in the book—the Book of Life. You might have your name on a church register but not on the divine register.

On one occasion, the disciples were excited because they were able to cast out demons by the power of God. But Jesus told them, “Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20).

I know my name is written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. The follower of Christ need not fear for his or her salvation, because Jesus gives us this promise: “He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” (Revelation 3:5).

Is your name in the Book of Life?
